How does airbrush tanning work?
Airbrush tans are applied by professional technicians using specialized equipment designed for applying self tanning sprays. The technician hand sprays the client from head to toe with a gentle misting of a solution containing a chemical called dihydroxyacetone (DHA) as the active ingredient. The tan is not a dye, stain or paint, but a chemical reaction between the DHA and the amino acids in the dead layer on the skin surface. It does not involve skin pigmentation nor does it need UV exposure to initiate the color change.
Why is airbrush tanning better?
Airbrush tanning is non-toxic and skin safe, without the potential risks of sunburn and skin cancer that are associated with UV exposure. In addition, a skillfully applied airbrush tan allows for cosmetic improvements that normal tans do not.
How should I get ready for my airbrush tanning experience?
- Arrive freshly showered after shaving and/or trimming excess hair and exfoliating your entire body.
- Keep lotions, creams, deodorant, perfume, make up etc to a minimum.
- No showering or excessive sweating for 8-10 hours after application.
- Bring loose dark clothing to wear afterwards with slip on foot wear.
- Don't forget your favorite shaped under pieces for tan-lines (optional).
- Avoid touching your skin while your tan is developing (or you'll end up with tanned fingertips!)
How long will my airbrush tan last?
The tan will fade gradually over 3 to 10 days.
How do I make my airbrush tan last as long as possible?
- Avoid long soaks in the pool, hot tub, or bath.
- Moisturize daily
- Pat dry skin rather than rub
